Alabama police detain 7 for drug and criminal charges

Authorities in Morgan County took several people into custody on the evening of June 11. Five of those individuals were charged with a variety of drug crimes.

According to reports, officers went to a residence on Gum Springs Road after receiving a warrant, resulting in the detention of two men, ages 36 and 50, and a 38-year-old woman. Charges included unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana in the second degree. The 50-year-old man was charged with loitering at a drug house, and his bond was set for $300.

Officers say they discovered a 47-year-old woman hiding in the rear of a vehicle, and she was charged with possession of Valium, a controlled substance. The driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old woman, was detained and charged for possessing prohibited liquor. In another incident, officials also executed a search warrant at another home on Hayes Street Southwest, and they apprehended a 20-year-old man and his 40-year-old mother. The man was detained based on an outstanding warrant for criminal trespassing in the third degree. The woman was taken into custody for failing to pay child support and for contempt of court.

Those facing criminal charges may find it beneficial to retain the services of a lawyer. In similar cases where a search warrant was served, a criminal defense lawyer may be able to challenge the validity of the warrant or raise questions regarding the adherence of proper police protocol when making the arrest. If an individual’s rights were infringed during that time, the lawyer may be able to have the charges reduced or dismissed.
