Dale County mom faces drug and child endangerment charges

A Dale County mother is facing a number of serious charges after police apparently found her passed out at the wheel of her car.

The 29-year-old Daleville resident was arrested and charged last Thursday with unlawful possession of meth, child endangerment and DUI, the Dothan Eagle reports.

She is also charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (prescription Xanax), the Daleville police chief told the newspaper.

The chief said the arrest process began when police responded to a medical call regarding an unconscious driver in a vehicle on Daleville Avenue on Thursday afternoon. When officers arrived, they said they couldn’t get the woman to respond to taps on the car’s windows.

When officers got a response, they questioned the woman, who apparently said she believed she would test positive if tested for meth and Xanax in her system.

When officers began the arrest, she apparently said she needed to go home to tend to her 7-year-old daughter. However, when police arrived at the woman’s residence, they didn’t find the girl or the babysitter the mother had told them was there.

Reserve officers were called in and a search for the girl was launched. About 30 minutes later, officials found her down the street at a house where someone had recently been charged with making methamphetamine.

The girl was apparently watching television by herself in the residence.

The girl’s dad then drove from Montgomery to pick the child up.

The mom was taken to jail, where she was reportedly found to be in possession of the substances.

She now faces charges that certainly put her continued freedom and her custody of her child in doubt. Before discussing the circumstances or evidence with a prosecutor, she should talk over the allegations with an experienced criminal defense attorney.
