Hoover resident arrested at his home on Memorial Day

On May 26, shortly before 5:30 p.m., Alabama police received a report of an active shooter in a residential area. The initial report allegedly stated that an unidentified man had fired shots in his own home. His roommate left the property after the accused man is said to have fired a shot toward him. The roommate was not injured.

Four minutes after receiving the call, police arrived on the scene. It is alleged that another shot was fired at approximately 6:45 p.m. and again a few minutes past the hour. It was not stated whether these shots were directed at the officers or inside the house. Roads were closed in an effort to secure the area. At approximately 7:20 p.m., the accused man reportedly walked out of the home holding a gun. He voluntarily surrendered after speaking with police, who then took him into custody. He was transported to Hoover City Jail to be held until police filed charges. It was not stated whether or not he may be charged with assault or other criminal offenses.

Although approximately a dozen police cars reported to the scene, no shots were fired by police. Officers did not know what may have incited the incident. The man’s roommate and an unidentified woman gave lengthy statements to the police but declined to comment to the press.

A criminal defense attorney may be able to help an individual facing charges by arguing for pretrial release or reviewing the evidence in order to determine the best applicable defense. If there are multiple charges filed, an attorney may be able to help negotiate a plea bargain where some violations are reduced or dismissed in exchange for a guilty plea.
